I went to the 3rd service yesterday. Record low attendence I guess. Even our senior pastor wasn't there. ;)
The sermon was about building a strong relationship with God. It was a pretty long sermon. The speaker was Keith Tay. He mentioned that if we were to go for theological school, it's lectures would be like that.
Just to sum it up, 5 points in all. In his first 3 points, he uses a different technique to bring across his message. He bases on his assumptions on how we Christians assume who God is, and then brings across a different light to it. They are namely:
1. God is not the only one who has something important to say.
2. God is not the only one with something important to do and the power to do it.
3, God is not the only one whose will counts.
This brings the responsibility back to us as it is down to us to determine how close is our relationship with God. But from reading point no. 1 I have come to realise that our Christian walk is a cycle. I believe most of us pray more then we read the Bible. The case for me is that I often ask and seek from God. :) Then your cell group leader or pastor will ask you to read the Bible more, receive God's word. Now, the preacher's brings us back to where we're required to speak to God. So basically, what I have come to know is that God wants a two-way relationship.
4. God is deeply affected by what happens in the relationship.
5. The future is not all mapped out.
All in all, though I dare not say I fully understand what he's preaching, we are called to believe that effort and hard work is essential to our relationship with God. And concerning our future, it's in our hands! So is there such thing as 'elektos'? A chosen generation? Favour of God? It's for us to journey through.
