deadly game of POLITICS

Have you read the news?

Karpal Singh has received a death threat in a form of a bullet. Accompanying it was a threatening note that goes like this: Don't try to question the special rights of the Malay people. Don't try to question the Malay rulers' powers. If you don't stop, this bullet will be lodged in your forehead. Remember, Bengali, don't forget. This is your first warning.

I wonder what has the feared Tiger of Jelutong done wrong? I guess its only in the eyes of certain people that he has tried to deny their 'rights and privileges'. Well, come to say, I believe certain people in our country has been denied certain rights. I've just been checking out the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and am just wondering is Malaysia is part of United Nations, and does this apply to our country's citizens? ;)

Article 5
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.

Article 9
No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile.

Article 18
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.

Article 19
Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.

I might not be a law student, neither do I know much about politics, but it has been clear to see that our 'filtered' papers have been already reporting so much cases of injustice. Well, I'm not implying that our government is terrible as we've known worse, but it makes people do wonder if this is all they can do, with all the power and resources at hand? May our beloved Malaysia prosper and justice prevails.
