I'm really sorry and I'll apologize for not blogging for very long. Yes indeed it has been an 'eventful' month with so many things popping up. I sort of stopped posting because I realized no one read it anyways. But somehow tonight, I'm very motivated.
What motivated me?
Ever felt that you needed an outlet to just complain and get everything out. I've found mine in this blog. :) Here goes.
I've just went to Emerge KL 2008 Talent Time preliminary round. And from that short experience, I'm very disappointed. And why do I type it out here, cause the 'proper channel' is unapproachable.
So I thought the reason we have Emerge KL 2008 is a form of evangelism. I was so wrong. Being so innocent, I signed up for songwriting. Little did I know who were to judge me! For those who don't understand, we have preliminary rounds so that we can 'filter' people out from the 'real' audition to avoid time wasting. But for me, I saw that as a chance for those who have a dream of being a star, singing in front of a large audience, just to get a feel for it. I just watched Early Edition this afternoon and a girl told a story of a psychic who earned money for telling fortunes. People still went to the psychic after knowing that he was a bluff. Why? Because people in this world lack hope, and the short 5 minutes of fortune telling satisfies just that little bit. Well, I was thinking that Jesus is the true hope, and shouldn't we too give people hope in this hopeless world? And isn't it ironic that the judge himself acted as Jesus in a recent Easter church production. It's a pity that the wonderful character was left behind on the stage.
Well, and if the change of format wasn't enough, I had to face terrible judges (a jerk according to a friend). For better understanding, preliminary rounds gets the contestants to show the cluster leaders what they are capable of, and through a filtering process, the leaders can choose the best among them to compete with other clusters. Due to the 'lack' of time, the judges could only criticize instead of encouraging or showing the proper way nicely. Given a non-Christian setting (as I've been in many times through concerts and musicals), the musical director is not often so judgmental. But I've got to admit, we have been warned that it was 'American Idol' style, so I should have expected a Simon Cowell wannabe inside.
All in all, I do hope Emerge KL 2008 turns out to be a life building event, instead of a confidence destroying disaster. Pastor Kevin did mention that City Harvest Church KL is made up of real people, and this ain't a perfect church, just like every other song or singer that they've listened to tonight; but I would always want to believe that City Harvest Church KL can give what the world can't offer. A smile, a nice comment, a little encouragement - it all makes a big difference in another's world.
As I realized that my opinions often fall upon deaf ears, this feels so much better even if no one reads it! ;)
