BERNSTEIN's musical

Last Saturday night I went to watch an MPO concert with Silvia and Towfiq. It was a really nice program as it featured American composers - Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland and Samuel Barber. The piece that I enjoyed most was Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. It really a wonderful piece. I got the link for Youtube below for you to enjoy. For non-music majors, its easy listening as it has the orchestra playing popular styles of music. If you've seen West Side Story (a modernized Romeo and Juliet love story set in Manhattan during the 50's), it's pretty much like a medley of the songs, minus the singing.

This above is the first part while those who don't have much time to appreciate this great composition can skip to the second part where 'Mambo' begins. :)

You still here? All good things come in 3 - the last part of the 'trilogy'. A wonderful flute solo to begin with. :D

I went the Wikipedia to search the orchestra that played this. Its a Venezuelan youth orchestra. Imagine all those young talents! The conducter is Gustavo Dudamel, aged 27 only, and has been described by the New York Times as "one of the hottest — and youngest — conducting properties around
